I never paid much attention to the dates on autographed copies of Pelley’s books. I did recall having an autographed original edition of his second novel “The Fog” which I recently ran across. The date on this one is inscribed Pasadena, Cal., Aug 8, 1923.
It shouldn’t be impossible to find a signed copy of his first novel “The Greater Glory” easily dated earlier than this.
As far as most interesting inscriptions, I have a copy of a signed letter, quite personal in nature, to none other than Lon Chaney.
As for books, here’s an inscription from his self-published “Entrance in Rear” from 1923 to movie mogul Jesse Lasky.
In the works, an essay entitled “Ever the Adversary,” a consideration of the fact that Pelley resided in the most liberal hotbeds of this country as a creative artist type: Vermont, New York, Hollywood, D.C., Asheville. Actually, that observation may be all that needs saying. Draw your own conclusions.
I dont own a copy so i had to read a PDF version, but I recently read 'The Fog' and a little bit of 'The Greater Glory', I really liked it. It pushed me to get physical copies of WDP's books. The only place I could find them was online. They're (relatively) recently published but at least I found them. The one I'm struggling to find is 'Drag' but I really like his writing style and enjoy the stories he had to tell.
The Fog recently digitized and even formatted for Kindle by Project Gutenberg: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/70037
